HORSE, THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED, QUEENS HALL, Edinburgh, with very special guest Kirsten Adamson

FINALLY, THE NEW ALBUM TOUR

The Queen's Hall is one of her favourite places to play and appearing here has become a delightful annual Edinburgh soiree for her and the audience. It’s like a grand reunion.

A Horse show is always a special one, but given that there’s a new album coming out ( the 11th) and this year is also the 30th anniversary of 'God’s Home Movie' (her 2nd album), there’s much to celebrate. This show will feature songs from 'God's Home Movie' as well as songs from the new album, her 11th, alongside the classics

TAE SUP WI' A FIFER AT QUEENS HALL

Songwriter James Yorkston’s gloriously eclectic nights of music and sounds have made a new home at The Queen’s Hall.

For these two very special editions of Tae Sup at The Queen's, we move from our usual cosy performance space to the spectacle of the main Hall.

“I just try and mix things up, keeping the line-ups interesting, not one particular genre or theme to a night… A lot of the people I ask to play are friends who I’ve known for years, or just people I’ve met on the road whose music has taken to me. When programming, I start with Who would I like to see play? and work from there…” (James Yorkston)

SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMERS:

Horse: "One of the finest voices of modern times, soul and intelligence combined" (David Quantick). Horse is not only known for her unique, passionate vocals and performance, but also for her skills as a songwriter. For decades, Horse has been a constant in Scottish Music. She has toured all of her career and has also opened for many greats including BB King and Tina Turner. She was recently honoured to have her portrait painted by artist Roxana Halls. This bold work was acquired for the nation and now hangs in the Scottish National Portrait gallery. She is currently working on her 11th album. Horse recently joined the ‘Tae write wi’ a Fifer’ project and will be performing songs from this with Finn and Me For Queen alongside some of her own classics.

Finn Anderson: An award-winning artist moving between the worlds of music and theatre, Finn Anderson is one of Scotland's most enchanting storytellers. Embracing a love of folk balladry and a penchant for the theatrical, Finn’s songwriting flows freely from the soft and sensitive to the bold and dramatic, with striking lyrics that go straight for the heart. His second album 'Into the Arms of Ghosts' was released in 2021, with recent shows alongside Rachel Sermanni, Douglas Dare, The Magic Lantern and Tom Robinson. As a theatre-maker, Finn recently co-created award-winning musical 'Islander' which has taken him from the Highlands and Islands to New York, with a 9-week run off-Broadway.

Me For Queen: With a voice often likened to Carole King and Regina Spektor, a classical piano training, and influences ranging from Björk to Chopin, Me for Queen – the creative alias of Mary Erskine – is rapidly winning acclaim for her beguiling ‘soul-folk’ songcraft, blending traditional folk story-telling with a contemporary edge. Growing up feral in rural Fife/Scotland, years of classical training together with a Blues guitarist for a father make for an interesting mix of soul and folk. Her much-anticipated debut solo album, “Loose End” was released via Seahorse Music in September 2018, followed by an EP “Perfect Stranger” exploring motherhood, a collaboration with the Nashville singer, Alva Leigh.

Kim Edgar'S Consequences with Horse, Boo Hewerdine, James Grant, Rachel Sermani and others

Delighted to be part of Kim Edgar Consequences album. Myself and other artists have collaborated with Kim on songs for this album. Our song is Save Myself The remit was what did I want to write about and what are the consequences? We wrote from the heart. I write from the place of a child who to protect themselves shut down to save themselves. However in saving the child the person is locked in safe mode … Kim will be joined by myself, James Grant, Boo Hewerdine and Rachel Sermani amongst other exceptional writers who underwent the same process but with dramatically different results. This is the show of the album and cannot be missed.

The Same Sky, 30th Anniversary Show with strings and guests

A final hurrah for the same sky - after 30 years. A glorious, celebratory concert of the anniversary of the classic album ‘The same sky’, with full band and strings post national tour.

In March 1989, the first single, “You could be forgiven”, was released and it was so different from anything else at the time  - thrilling first plays on Radio 1 - the track absolutely setting the bar - an incredibly unique Scottish voice and brilliant band. The first major UK tour followed and in 1990, tours across Europe, including opening for artists such as Tina Turner and BB King.

There are many great songs on this album but arguably the ultimate song from this album and possibly any of her albums, is “Careful”,  a beautiful and timeless song.

This is a very special night which will inevitably conjure up treasured times from over the years for the entire audience. It’s a rare evening, celebrating and playing the album in its entirety - the full band show with strings - a set choc-full of the classic songs.
